Connected Communities
Cincinnati City Council is presently considering modifying the city’s zoning code to add new zoning categories, for the purpose of relaxing density & minimum parking restrictions in selected areas of the city: Neighborhood Business Districts, “Tier 1” transit corridors where BRT routes are being planned, and “Tier 2” corridors which are served by 24hr transit. The city has published a website explaining the changes and the motivation here. This site includes a PDF draft of the proposed ordinance, as well as an interactive map that displays the boundaries of the areas of the city that will be affected by zoning changes.
During the April 9th meeting, WPHCC voted to oppose the proposal in its current form, and request that the city take more time to listen to concerns raised by impacted stakeholders and consider changes or additional measures to address these concerns.
The proposed ordinance will be presented to the City Planning Commission on May 17th with public input available in person or via Zoom. To learn more and register to attend or provide input, please visit the city’s Connected Communities Events page. Following this, the matter will then be brought up to Cincinnati City Council for a vote in the coming weeks.
Invest In Neighborhoods has published a short online survey to gather feedback from residents as well, which can be accessed here.
WPHCC strongly encourages residents and other stakeholders to take advantage of both engagement measures and ensure that city leaders hear your voices.
